MINNEAPOLIS -- A state lawmaker has been tapped to lead efforts in a national movement to make schools more environmentally friendly.
Rep. Jeremy Kalin, a North Branch Democrat, is one of six state lawmakers from across the country that are leading a campaign launched by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The "Fifty for Fifty" campaign's goal is to start working groups of green school advocates in every state legislature.
Besides passing along a message to students about preserving the environment through curriculum, the campaign focuses on getting schools to adopt earth-friendly building techniques.
Kalin, who has a background in green building design, was the chief author of a bill in the Minnesota Legislature that set a goal of having a certain number of energy efficient buildings in Minnesota by 2011.
