ST. PAUL, Minn. -- The Minnesota Department of Agriculture has extended a deadline for grants to improve the state's biodiesel industry.

The reason -- no one submitted an application by the previous deadline of Nov. 28.

That was Friday, the day after Thanksgiving.

The state has $300,000 in funds available to spend on additional equipment at petroleum terminals where biodiesel is blended with regular diesel. Christina Connelly, biofuels manager at the ag department, says the new equipment would warm the biodiesel during the winter so the two fuels blends easier.

The department has heard from applicants who say they just needed more time.

The new deadline is Dec. 12.
