WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- City and county election officials are suggesting a wide range of changes before the next statewide election in Minnesota -- everything from better training for election judges to tighter rules on absentee ballots.

Secretary of State Mark Ritchie listened to officials from metro area cities and counties Tuesday. He'll hold similar meetings this week and next week in outstate Minnesota.

After that, Ritchie will announce his legislative agenda.

Some officials at the Twin Cities meeting support an early voting system that they say could be smoother than dealing with the excessive paperwork of absentee voting.

Ritchie says he expects that will be a part of his agenda, along with ways to make the voting process simpler and more efficient.
