The snow is over, now it's time for the cold
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- A major winter storm moved through Minnesota on Thursday, giving the state a fresh blanket of snow and causing at least one death.
The National Weather Service reports Friday that between 5 inches and 8 inches of snow fell throughout most of central and southern Minnesota, with a few spots over 9 inches. The highest reported total in the metro is just over 7 inches in Bloomington. There has been at least one death attributed to the storm. A man was struck by a snowplow in downtown Minneapolis. Bitter cold is following the storm, with temperatures at or below zero forecast for much of the state, with subzero windchills. The strong late February sun will help melt snow off the streets and sidewalks today even though temperatures will remain well below the freezing point ( 32 degrees ). Skies today will be sunny to partly cloudy and temperatures will range from +9 degrees ( wind-chill -10 below ) at 8 A.M. to 13 degrees ( wind-chill 0 degrees ) at noon and 18 degrees at sunset ( 5:58 P.M. ).
