Teen suspect arrested in Southdale shooting
Edina police have arrested a teenager in connection with a shooting at Southdale mall Friday, February 27th. The 16-year old suspect is currently in police custody, accused in the gang related shooting of two other teens. Police believe the shooting started with an argument between rival gang members. The suspect allegedly pulled out a gun and fired several shots outside the mall. An 18-year-old and a 15-year-old were injured. One teenager was shot in the abdomen, the other in the leg. Southdale has a very sophisticated security camera system, so investigators were able to review video and photos to help them identify those involved or who may have seen something. During police questioning, the suspect admitted his involvement in the shooting and led officers to where he discarded the gun. Charges of attempted murder are pending. The Hennepin County Attorney's office says they are considering charging the suspect as an adult.
