Fire damages townhouse complex in Minneapolis
It is one thing to see a fire like the one in South Minneapolis this afternoon and say wow, I'm glad I don't know anyone who lives there. But to hear about the fire and realize, you do know who lives there is about as bad as it gets. That is what happened to Joanne Peterson. Peterson was running errands in Edina when the news broke on the radio that her daughter's home on 50th and Sheridan was in flames. "It was a shock, you go into shock mode where you just head for the territory you need to be in," Peterson said. While a mother rushed to the scene guided by the flames in the sky her daughter, Lia Peterson, did the same. Peterson began racing home, or what was left of her home, from work when she head of the fire. Lia has lived in her townhome for five years but today the home that was burning in front of her was the least of her concern. "She has two wonderful beloved cats that we don't know about yet," Joanne Peterson said with worry. It took a couple of hours to find out what happened to those cats when finally, a firefighter came out carrying a furry miracle. Jake, her 4-year-old cat and Ellie, also 4, were just fine. They were a little scared, and, covered in water and soot. Once the cats came out Lia couldn't stop smiling. "That's the most important thing, everything else can be replaced."
