Minneapolis lawmaker Phyllis Kahn will face misdemeanor
theft charges for stealing GOP campaign literature last week.
New Hope city attorney Steve Sondrall says he decided on Friday to go forward with the charge after considering the matter for a
week.
Kahn, a long time state Representative has apologized to Republican House member Lynne Osterman for taking her campaign brochures from
doorsteps. Kahn replaced them with pieces from a DFL opponent.
Anoka County officials declined to prosecute Kahn on a charge of campaign tampering, but left the theft matter up to New Hope officials.
Kahn was on a bike ride in Iowa and couldn't immediately be reached for comment.
Her husband said Kahn hadn't been notified of the charge. He dismissed the case as a "publicity stunt."
