Later this week, a Roseville area high school senior will head to the nation's capitol to compete with other college bound students for national scientific scholarships.

Michael Barany is a straight-A student, who's a member of the National Honor Society, plays trumpet in the school concert and jazz bands, and is a scientist.

Barany credits his parents with developing his interest in science, ?When I was four or five, I wasn't played with tinker-toy sets, I was playing with molecular model sets and that was my parents? idea of getting me interested in science early on.?

A decade later, Michael Barany preparing to share what he's learned, in competition, in Washington D.C.

If Michael can convince the panel of judges at the Intel Science Talent Search that he's one of the best, he could win a $100,000 college scholarship.

For Michael this trip to Washington is about much more than the scholarship, ?The goal of this is to, regardless of what happens ? that's just an hour of my time ? I really want to meet other bright scientists.?

Anyone who knows Michael knows they have already met one of the brightest.
