This is a troubling tale in the life of a female owl. Back in 2007 the old grey gal found herself at the mercy of a fish hook, stranded in a Burnsville lake.
"She was brought in and found with a fish hook in what is the equivalent of her hand," Dr. Julia Ponder of the Raptor Center said about the owl.
She was rescued, treated, and released, until yesterday. "She was flying, may have been doing some hunting," Dr. Ponder said. Flying along Highway 169 when wham! The owl was hit by an SUV.
"It's just amazing that she hit hard enough to crack the plastic bumper and then get trapped," Dr. Ponder said.
Yep, the old owl got hit by a SUV and by sheer force, or crazy misfortune, got stuck in the grill. And let's just say, if this bird could give the bird, it would.
"I went ahead and tried to pull it out and it turned around and all I saw was the face of a big grey owl," Chris Lee said of the owl trapped in his truck. The owl had broken her radius, which is like a wrist to you and me. And she had absolutely no interest on leaving the safety of that bumper.
Finally the owl was removed, when the wheel panel was taken off and placed in the care of the Raptor Center where she will stay until she gets well. Crazy and scary. Because if looks could kill, the casualties of this owl would be immeasurable.
