On Friday, May 29th Nick Fisher and his fiance, Stacie, had big plans in Fargo.

"We were really up in Fargo for two reasons," Nick says.  "To pick up our marriage license and the other was an all day charity ride for muscular dystrophy."

They got the marriage license, but not long after that their plans changed.  While riding his motorcycle home, Nick attempted to change lanes.

"What happened was at 10 mph, on wet roads and a 1,000 lb motorcycle, the whole thing just turned and my body tensed and I fell to the ground," Nick recalled.

The fall snapped a vertebrae in Nick's low back, leaving him with total paralysis of his legs. When Nick heard the diagnosis he had two questions.  Remarkably, one of them wasn't.. "why me?"

"The two things I asked were, "Can I get my laptop to check emails?" and "when does rehab start?" I didn't have time to waste then and I don't now.

For one month, Nick has been wasting no time learning all the skills he needs to survive indepenently in a wheelchair.  The smallest things, like getting up out of bed, are now an exercise in patience, but Nick says that's been a blessing.

"I have little reminders just to slow down and enjoy life and friends and family and make memories."

Nick has made many memories since his accident, the best is of his wedding day.

"I said to my wife before we got married... life is probably going to be a lot different now,  little more difficult at times.  You're free to go if you want.  She said the thing is, nothing has really changed.  You're still the pain in the butt you were before, everything about you is the same.  I am just a little shorter now."

Nick and Stacie had the hospital chaplain marry them the day after he got out of the ICU.  The newlyweds will head home to Woodbury Tuesday and will waste no time jumping back into life.

"There really wasn't a Plan B.  I'm still on Plan A it just took a turn."

Nick and Stacie have a fund set up to help cover the medical costs.  Click here if you'd like to help.
