MABEL, Minn. -- Officials in Filmore County say a grandfather accidentally ran over his 2 1/2 year-old grandson in southeast Minnesota Tuesday evening.
The accident happened around 5 p.m. Tuesday night on a farm east of Mabel, Minn.
According to a news release, the grandfather had two small children in the back of his pickup truck. He believed the children were seated near the center of the pickup when he backed up the truck.
The child was run over before the grandfather realized he was not in the vehicle.
The child was pronounced dead shortly after the accident.
Authorities say it is not known at this time how the child ended up outside of the vehicle.
The identity of the child is not being released at this time.
