MINNEAPOLIS -- The University of Minnesota's student-run radio station, Radio K, will expand to FM and start broadcasting all day, seven days a week.

The switch-over starts Thursday.

The station will broadcast on 104.5 FM in Minneapolis and 100.7 FM in St. Paul. It will continue broadcasting on 770 AM, but only during daylight hours, which is an FCC rule.

Station manager Sara Miller says the new FM signal will improve over time as the station raises funds to improve the sound quality and increase the height of its tower to increase the range of its signal.

KUOM began broadcasting on 770 AM on Jan. 13, 1922.
