U of M solar house places 5th in national competition

WASHINGTON D.C. -- The University of Minnesota ICON Solar House finished in 5th place in the 2009 Solar Decathlon in Washington D.C.

The competition hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy took place on the National Mall.

The U of M student team had to transport their solar house to Washington D.C. and rebuilt it on the National Mall.

The U of M team is among only 20 universities from around the world that competed in the event.

Team Germany won first place following by the University of Illinois. Team California finished third.

The 20 teams that competed were: Cornell University, Iowa State University, Penn State, Rice University, The University of Arizona, The Ohio State University, Universidad de Puerto Rico, Virginia Tech, Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (Team Spain), University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, University of Kentucky, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, University of Minnesota, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, Team Alberta, Team Boston, Team California, Team Missouri, Technische Universität Darmstadt (Team Germany) and Team Ontario/BC.
