One of MN's most expensive homes goes on auction block
Sweeping views, elegant spaces and countless amenities- one of the most expensive homes in Minnesota is about to go on the auction block. The former Pillsbury estate on Lake Minnetonka is being offered for sale in a sealed bid auction to take place on December 9. Known as Southways, the grand estate covers 13 acres of prime real estate on Lake Minnetonka's Brackets Point in Orono. Along with 1700 feet of lakefront, there is a 40,000 square foot main house, pool, tennis complex and wine cellar which can hold 15,000 bottles of wine. "It's really a work of art," says Craig Post, a broker with Sheldon Good and Company, the firm handling the auction. Post added that the property is being offered with a reserve, however, he added, "we fully expect the owner will sell the property." George and Eleanor Pillsbury built the mansion in 1918 as a summer cottage. The family lived in the home until the early 90's when it was sold to it's current owner, former hedge fund manager and former co-owner of the Minnesota Vikings, James Jundt. Jundt tried to sell the estate two years ago, but there were no takers with it's $53.5 million asking price. Over it's 91 year history, Southways has hosted foreign dignitaries, heads of state as well as presidents. 2009 property taxes for the estate were $178,000. The estate is available for inspection to brokers and qualified buyers Click here.http://www.sheldongood.com/southways.php
