Twin Cities lowest gas prices

Creepy costumes are gone for another year.

Creeping gas prices continue to climb.

On average, Minnesotans are now paying about $2.67 for a gallon of regular gas.

A month ago, Minnesotans paid $2.35.  Last Halloween, they paid about $2.19.

Experts say we can blame a weak dollar and an improving economy.

"There's more demand for gasoline, for diesel fuel, for heating oil," said Associate Professor Jerry Fruin of the University of Minnesota's Department of Applied Economics.  "As industrial activity and consumer expenditures go up, we just use more fuels."

A scary trend for people who haven't yet felt the economic recovery.

"You had to decide, do you want to eat, or do you want to put gas in your car," said Biftu Jillo of New Brighton, while filling up her car's gas tank.  "That's where it's at now."

Jillo said she's stopped keeping track of all the ups and downs.

"It's expensive and that's what it is," she said.

Professor Fruin said he does not expect gas prices to climb much higher over the next year.
