Dueling fans watch Vikings-Packers game together
If you're going to watch one of football's greatest rivalries, you might as well do it with rivals. Herkimer in Uptown is notoriously a Packers bar on Sundays, but amid the green and gold this week, there was plenty of purple. "I got tricked into coming here," said Vikings fan Jenny Beranek. "She didn't tell me it was a Packers bar." Jessica Ranfranz actually cheered on both teams. "I am neutral in this situation," she said. "My mom's a Vikings fan and my boyfriend's a Packers fan." Her boyfriend, Alex Wasserburger, hoped to turn her against the Vikings -- and against Brett Favre. "I used to love Brett Favre, but now he's just a traitor to me," he said. "I want to boo him." Vikings fans preferred to cheer Favre's name. One fan event painted his name across his forehead, although he spelled it "Farve." "Everyone asks if I spelled it wrong intentionally," Rolf Belgum said. "Of course I did." He simply lost a bet. Across the street from Herkimer, at the Lyndale, it was mostly a pro-purple crowd. And after beating the Packers, they loved the sound of Favre's name -- no matter how you spelled it. (Copyright 2009 by KARE. All Rights Reserved.)
