MnDOT confirmed Monday that it was a piece of concrete that damaged a car on Interstate 35E last week. That piece of concrete fell off of the Interstate 494 overpass and hit Kyle Jones' 2003 Ford Focus.

MnDOT says the chunk of concrete was about 2 feet by 1 foot and about 3/4 of an inch thick.

It cracked the car's windshield and severely dented the roof.

The bridge was last inspected in 2007. Crews were back on the overpass last weekend. They say the bridge is structurally sound and is safe to drive on and under.

Crews did remove all loose concrete from that section of the overpass last weekend.

MnDOT says it will offer to pay for any damages to Jones' car or replace it entirely.
