Teen vows to no longer text and drive after crash
"I text at home, but I don't text in my car," said Kahlee Griffey. To clarify, Griffey doesn't text in her car often.
"Like once a day," she said.
When she did it Wednesday morning, she lost control of the vehicle and it rolled onto the driver's side door.
"I was just texting and then I looked up and I swerved off the road and as far as I know I could take control of the vehicle at all and I just hit something and remember being upside down," Griffey said.
It happened on the road which runs along the Blaine High School football field.
"How harmless could it be, I was almost at school," she thought.
Police at the scene told her if it wasn't for her seatbelt, she may not be here today to explain what happened.
"I would've died," she said. "And I just have minor cuts now."
A few cuts which will heal and hopefully a lesson learned, which will take a little longer to forget.
"It's really scary, definitely changed my life, I definitely am not going to text and drive anymore, it's not worth it," Griffey said.
Kahlee's mother contacted us for this story as a sort of punishment.
Both Kahlee and her mother hope by getting the word out it will prevent other people from texting while driving.
Her mom has also turned to the internet to spread the word. She has posted photos of the rollover on a Facebook webpage: Teens against TWD.
