Third person dies after crash in Forest Lake
FOREST LAKE, Minn. -- A third person has died after a crash near Forest Lake Sunday. Eric Sprouse, 18, of Wyoming died Monday. Sprouse was the driver of a pickup heading northbound on Interstate 35 Sunday morning. The pickup crossed the grass median and hit a car heading south. Sprouse was ejected from the vehicle. He was airlifted to the hospital in critical condition. James Holland, 45, of Chanhassen and his four-year-old son Jude were in the other car. They died at the scene. Sprouse's 19-year-old passenger, Dustin Covey, also of Wyoming suffered a broken leg. Authorities say neither Sprouse nor Covey were wearing seatbelts. Holland was wearing a seatbelt and his son was buckled into a child seat. "It's a perfectly sunny day, light winds, no weather conditions and normal traffic and two people were killed because someone was not paying attention and not driving safe," says Lt. Matt Langer with the State Patrol. Authorities are trying to piece together what happened. Langer wants anyone who may have witnessed the crash to come forward. All four lanes of southbound Interstate 35 were closed for nearly five hours as the State Patrol investigated. (Copyright 2009 by The Associated Press. All Rights Reserved.)
