MADISON, Wis. -- A Wisconsin appeals court is reinstating a $5 million damage award in a family feud involving one of the world's largest beef jerky companies.

The feud involves the family that owns Link Snacks Inc. in Minong, Wis., which sells jerky and other meat snacks worldwide.

The dispute has pitted company founder Jack Link against his son Jay Link, who contends he was unfairly cut out of the family business in 2005.

The District 3 Court of Appeals on Tuesday reinstated a jury's $5 million punitive damage award against Jack Link.

A judge had reduced the award to $736,000 after Jack Link argued it was excessive. The appeals court says the original award stands because Jack Link's legal filing came one day after a deadline.
