ST. PAUL, Minn. -- A Ramsey County jury convicted the driver in a crash that killed a mother of six last April.
Tito Campbell, 33, of Crystal was found guilty Thursday of a number of charges including criminal vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated.
Authorities say on April 18, Campbell assaulted a woman, stole her car and then led police on a high speed chase. It ended near Interstate 35E and Larpenteur Avenue. Campbell went through a red light and hit a car driven by Zong Xiong. Xiong's wife, Shoua Vang, 48, of St. Paul, was a passenger in the car. Xiong was injured.
"This was a devastating crime committed by a person who showed no regard for the lives and well-being of others. We are pleased by these verdicts, and hope they bring some sense of justice to the victims' family and to our community," Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner said.
Campbell was allegedly drunk at the time of the crash. His ten-year-old son was a passenger in the stole car.
Campbell will be sentenced January 12, 2010.
