Commercial fire closes streets in Brooklyn Park
BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. -- State Hazmat crews are on the scene of a commercial structure fire in Brooklyn Park Friday morning. The fire started at Joyner's Silver located in the 7800 block of Xylon Avenue North around 5 a.m. Friday. The fire is still burning on the inside of the building but Brooklyn Park Fire Chief Ken Prillaman says it is "under control." State Hazmat crews are entering the building at this time to determine if there are any hazardous chemicals inside the building. Prillaman says that process could take a long time. Joyner's Silver appears to be a plating business according to neighbors. Prillaman told KARE 11 they have been doing air-monitoring within a half mile of Joyner's Silver. Authorities believe no one was in the building at the time of the fire. No residences have been evacuated at this time. Some streets have been closed off while crews try to get the situation under control. We will have more information as it becomes available on kare11.com. (Copyright 2009 by KARE.
