BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) -- The mother of slain University of North Dakota student Dru Sjodin says that in the six years since her daughter was killed there has been progress in strengthening laws dealing with sex offenders.
But Linda Walker says there is still work to do.
Walker still travels the country, speaking to groups as a member of the Surviving Parents Coalition. She says it has been an uphill battle to get funding for sex offender notification and child protection programs.
The 22-year-old Sjodin was abducted from the parking lot of a Grand Forks shopping mall in November 2003. Her body was found five months later near Crookston, Minn. Convicted rapist Alfonso Rodriguez Jr. was later convicted in her death and sentenced to die.
