MINNEAPOLIS -- For volunteers at People Serving People, they say serving food for those in need is what a holiday like Thanksgiving should be all about.
"It's the spirit of Thanksgiving and Christmas," Trina Wheeler said.
Wheeler has volunteered here for eight years. She's already had a holiday feast with her family today.
"It's the first half with my family and the other half with family here," Wheeler said.
She says she enjoys serving on holidays the most.
"I don't feel like it's giving up my Thanksgiving, I look forward to doing it all the time," Wheeler said.
And for the husband and wife team of Madhusudhan and Jyothsna Reddy, they're here donating their time. Jyothsna is normally a doctor and Madhusudhan is President of Sri Venkateswara Temple in Golden Valley.
"We wanted to do it on a holiday," Jyothsna said.
They're both fulfilling their mission statement of community service.
"Giving to the community, putting our time to serve the community," Jyothsna said.
Some of the food here is donated by individuals or businesses. Most of it is bought by PSP and made from scratch daily.
PSP help homeless families and children who can live here for up to a year, which buys them time to find employment and to hopefully get back on their feet.
But it seems the rambunctious Gones family couldn't be happier.
"We're enjoying our dinner for thanksgiving," said Doris Gones. "Mashed potatoes, gravy and broccoli."
