MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- The Salvation Army is warning people in the Twin Cities about a woman going door-to-door asking for donations.
Authorities say she was door-knocking at home on Garfield Avenue in Minneapolis Monday morning, telling people she was collecting money to help a family who recently lost their home in a fire.
The Salvation Army says the agency does not go door-to-door asking for donations.
"We are grateful for the phone call we received from a community member alerting us to this situation," says Major Darryl Leedom, with the Twin Cities branch of the Salvation Army. "It's always disappointing when someone takes advantage of the compassion and empathy of others to commit a crime."
The Salvation Army has reported the incident to Minneapolis Police.
