ST. LOUIS PARK, Minn.-- A Twin Cities man is charged with Felony Assault, after police say he threw battery acid in the face of a former girlfriend.
Police were called to the 3700 block of Louisianna Avenue South in St. Louis Park on Tuesday and found a woman on the sidewalk suffering from chemical burns on her face and hands. She told them that her former boyfriend, 28 year old Jarso Yohannes Adem, had confronted her on the sidewalk, then splashed a soda bottle full of chemicals on her when she refused to talk to him.
A jogger heard the victim scream and followed Adem to a nearby parking lot as he attempted to run away. He pointed the suspect out to police when they responded.
Adem later told investigators he purchased a car battery a few days before the attack and poured the acid inside into the plastic bottle. He said he knew the victim's route home from school, drove to the scene and parked, then attacked her with the battery acid when she refused to speak to him.
He is charged with second degree Felony Assault. If convicted Adem faces up to 7 years in prison.
At this point there is no word on the condition of the victim.
