MINNEAPOLIS -- One man is dead and two fire fighters were injured in a fire early Wednesday morning in Minneapolis.

Fire crews were called to 1426 Barnes Place around 1 a.m. on reports of a fire.

When firefighters arrived on the scene they found heavy smoke and flames pouring from the structure. On entering crews discovered one man unresponsive on the first floor.

The man was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

The blaze eventually leapt from the main floor into the attic. Deputy Chief Todd Steinhilber told KARE 11 that two firefighters suffered minor leg injuries after falling through a hole in the floor while fighting the fire.

Both were transported to HCMC to be checked out.

Steinhilber says the house was supposed to be vacant and does not know why the man was inside.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
