MINNEAPOLIS - A young boy who was shot Monday night died Tuesday morning at North Memorial.
The hospital confirmed the news Tuesday afternoon.
Three-year-old Terrell Mayes died at approximately 11:30 a.m., a statement from the hospital said.
Around 6:50 p.m., the Minneapolis ShotSpotter system notified police of shots fired in the 2600 block of Colfax Avenue North.
While responding to the activation, the call was upgraded to an actual shooting.
Arriving at the scene, police found the young boy had been shot.
The boy was transported to North Memorial with life threatening injuries.
Neighbors told KARE 11 the boy's family has only lived in the home for 4-6 months.
In a written statement sent Tuesday afternoon, Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan said "this is a horrible incident for this child and his family, especially over the holiday season; we again need the public's help."
Police do not have anyone in custody at this time.
Police, representatives from the mayor's office and other community members will hold a press conference at 2 p.m.
