A bill establishing a poet laureate for Minnesota has met a tragic fate.
Governor Pawlenty penned a fatal final verse when he vetoed the bill Friday.
The Republican governor says he appreciates and respects the arts but doesn't believe the state needs an official poet.
He said he was fearful it would lead to requests for other similar positions ? such as a state mime, interpretive dancer or potter.
The bill passed the House and Senate overwhelmingly, which would allow for an override if both chambers want to go that route.
