MANKATO, Minn. - Charges were filed Wednesday afternoon against Minnesota State University-Mankato head football coach Todd Hoffner.
Hoffner, 46, was arrested Tuesday afternoon.
On Wednesday, Hoffner, was charged with one count of using minors in sexual performance/pornographic work and one count of possession of pornographic work.
Both counts are felonies.
The charges allege Hoffner had three videos on his cell phone of various lengths. Videos on his university-provided phone were turned over to police on August 16.
The Blue Earth County sheriff's office reviewed the three videos, two of which were shot June 26, and the third from August 8.
The videos show three children, all under 10 years old.
According to the charges, a Mankato police detective, with the help of some Facebook photos, was able to determine that the children in the videos are related to Hoffner.
The complaint states the first two videos show the three children naked. The third video shows one of the young girls sleeping before "a male voice wakes the child and tells her to go potty," the complaint reads. The camera follows the girl in her underwear to the bathroom where the video clip ends.
Hoffner was placed on administrative leave on Friday, August 17.
On August 10, Hoffner brought his cell phone to the university's IT department complaining the phone was corrupt and not working properly, the complaint says. An IT supervisor for the university told Hoffner we would retrieve videos and pictures from the phone for Hoffner.
On August 14, the IT supervisor saw the videos in question. According to the complaint, the IT supervisor reported the videos to his supervisor and then met with school officials.
The first charge against Hoffner, using minors in sexual performance/pornographic work, carries a maximum sentence of 10 years and/or $20,000 fine. The second charge against Hoffner has a maximum penalty of five years and/or $5,000.
Hoffner spent the last four seasons as head coach of the Mavericks.
