ST. CLOUD, Minn. - A cool piece of history in St. Cloud will soon be closing. The Dairy Queen is in its final days of serving up soft serve.
"This iconic DQ was here when we were little," said Jennifer Wirz.
Wirz brought her children by for one final frozen treat.
"I like to share pieces of that history with my kids and wanted them to be here," she said.
The construction that's closing in is a sign of the times. A CVS Pharmacy has purchased the space on the corner next to the Dairy Queen.
"I've got 45 years of memories in this place," owner Bob Lahr said.
He isn't the only one with memories. This Dairy Queen that sits on Division Street has held its ground since 1949.
Lahr's parents purchased it in 1952. It's been in the Lahr family ever since.
The original fridge is still in operation, so are the stainless steel counter tops, which are more than 60 years old...
Typically open until October, the landmark for many will serve its last customer Sunday. And while, ownership plans to open a new location nearby, it still means farewell to a place with sweet memories.
The new location is expected to open by next year.
