VICTORIA, Minn. - For nearly three weeks, two friends have been pedaling towards their former high school.
You can bet their old classmates are going to be impressed with their trip.
It's something you might do the summer you graduate from high school, but 50 years later?
Chuck Dorn of Sacramento, California said, "I was really concerned we weren't going to be able to make it here for our reunion which is September 15th."
Dorn and Larry Hoff, 1962 Osseo Football co-captains, decided to bike cross country from California to their 50 year class reunion in Osseo.
Sporting their orange and black school colors as they rode through Victoria on their final day Saturday, they made it in plenty of time.
As for how many days it took, Larry Hoff, of Superior, Wisconsin, said, "I think this will be 19 total. And the way I figured it, we'll have logged 1,975 miles when we get to Osseo. So roughly, were doing 100 [miles] a day."
While Dorn has kept fit playing racquetball his whole life, it's the first time he has done something like this. He bought a bike and started training in January.
Dorn said of Hoff, with a laugh, "He motivates me. I don't think I motivate him much because he doesn't need much motivation."
It's not Hoff's first time. He has already crossed the U.S. three times, once east to west, another north to south and the third, he biked around the perimeter. So this trip was nothing, right?
Hoff said, "No, it is something. It's always something, and especially something, when you're riding with your best friend, your best high school friend. That's really special."
Still it was Dorn who came up with the idea.
On the last day of their trip, Dorn was riding with a swollen hand, one that Hoff thinks might be broken.
Dorn said, "I got a little too close, caught his rear bag, [it] flipped me over on the road."
He said he will get his hand checked out. Despite his injury, he said it's been worth it. He said they've inspired family and friends and that it, "Makes them want to do something out of their bucket list, so to speak."
And they've accomplished more than most 18-year-olds, with a story that will be hard to top at their 50 year class reunion.
Dorn said, "We'll probably get the furthest, 'coming from the furthest distance in particular on non-motorized vehicle.'"
Hoff said, "It's been a fun trip. It really has."
The duo arrived in Osseo around three o'clock on Saturday afternoon.
Since they arrived earlier than expected, they will spend two weeks at Larry's home before going to their 50 year Osseo High School class reunion on September 15th.
