Arson suspected in fire that destroyed Olivia food shelf, businesses

OLIVIA, Minn. - The Renville County food shelf is closed for the foreseeable future, and so are a handful of businesses after a fire Sunday night that police suspect is a case of arson.

Olivia police and fire and crews from a number of nearby departments were called to the structure fire shortly after 8:30 p.m. The building houses the Renville County Food Shelf/thrift store, the Redwood/Renville Red Cross, and Hair Connection.

The building also has a second story apartment unit. Fortunately the resident of that apartment was able to escape the building unharmed.

The State Fire Marshall's Office was called in, and investigators quickly determined that the fire was arson.

Anyone that has any information on the fire or who may be responsible is asked to call Olivia Police, the Renville County Sheriff's Department or the State Arson Hotline at 1-800-723-2020.

A rewards of up to $2,500 may be available for information leading to the identification of the person or persons responsible for this fire.
