MINNEAPOLIS - Police shut down two lanes of State Highway 62/Crosstown near the border of Minneapolis and Edina for a period late Thursday morning as they searched for at least one suspect in a home burglary.

Squads were called to a home on the 6100 block of Xerxes on a report of a burglary in progress shortly after 11 a.m. An Edina police spokesperson says the property owner came home, found someone in the house and called 911.

As officers arrived on the scene another 911 call came in reporting a man running around on the Crosstown. Police set up a perimeter and soon located the suspect and took him into custody.

He was taken to nearby Fairview Southdale Hospital for unknonw reasons.

The incident triggered a shutdown of all but one lane of the heavily traveled westbound Crosstown Highway for a short period of time, and when traffic was allowed to resume the ramp to Xerxes remained closed.
