STILLWATER, Minn. - Ask the regulars and they will tell you that nobody knows good old-fashioned American food like the folks at Leo's Grill and Malt Shop.

Their burgers are a favorite and their hospitality is unbeatable especially if you're a veteran on Veterans Day weekend.

Owner Cory Buettner decided five years ago to thank veterans by giving them a free meal.

On Veterans Day, he set up a tent and was ready to serve 600 veterans, but Sunday's chilly weather only brought out 200 people.

"It was pretty chilly out there. We did have heaters," Buettner said.

With enough food left over to feed an army he decided to open his doors to veterans again on Monday. Bittner said it's the least he can do.

"For some of the veterans, especially from the Vietnam era, they didn't get the welcome home that they deserved so it's just very motivating and heartwarming to welcome them to our restaurant and give them a warm meal," he said.

A warm meal that his father, Leo Buettner, a World War II veteran, only dreamed of as a soldier stationed thousands of miles away in Japan.

Leo died four and half years ago after a stroke, but his legacy lives on in the restaurant his son named after him.

"He'd be proud of what we're doing. I'm sure he's smiling down on us today," he said.
