GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.-We are in the season of gift giving and for many, the best gifts come from the pantry. However, some families fall short on basic food needs.

Marsha Shotley, Chief Philanthropy Officer of Second Harvest Heartland, joined KARE 11 News @4 to encourage the gift of food to their foodbank this year.

Shotley says the most needed foods are:

-Canned meats, fish, stew, or beans

-Canned fruits, vegetables, fruit preserves and 100% fruit juice

-Complete meals, such as pasta and sauces

-Also grains, like cereal and rice

-And a yearly staple, peanut butter

Shotley says they hope to receive donations of any of the most needed food items, plus with a $5 donation, Second Harvest Heartland can provide 18 meals to someone in need. They are also looking for volunteers at Second Harvest Heartland.

Shotley also says suggest helping by hosting a food and fund drive where you ask for a food collection.

And of course, they are always happy to see money directly donated to Second Harvest Heartland.
