WALKER, Minn. - The International Eelpout Festival is taking place February 14-17 2013. Started in 1979, the festival has grown from 700 mostly local visitors to nearly 10,000.
For three days anglers try their hand at catching one of the ugliest fish found in freshwater, with top prizes awarded in several categories. The International Eelpout Festival is often viewed as a slice of pure, unadulterated cold-weather Americana and even, for some, a bucket-list worthy adventure!
In 2011, The Tonight Show w/Jay Leno opted to spend an entire weekend in Walker to check out "the infamous pout". The Festival in turn provided so much revelry that the crew ended up producing a 2-part series about the long-held traditions of this truly ugly (but humbly charming) creature.
Professional angler Jeff Andersen brought an eelpout to KARE 11 News at 4. He challenged Pat Evans and Laura Betker to pucker up for the pout. Watch the video above to see if they accepted!
