GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - The Minnesota State Parks and Trails are offering free maple syrup programs this spring.
The prime tapping time is the end of March through early April when the sap starts to flow when the temperatures are below freezing at night and above freezing during the day.
The MN State Parks will offer 30 workshops in state parks across the state now through the first week in April. You don't need any special equipment just come dressed for the weather. Workshops last from one to two hours.
The workshops are family friendly and kids can get involved in the tapping. The sessions are free but you need to pre-register. You will also need a vehicle permit for $5/day or $25/year-round permit which is good for all 76 state parks for one year.
