GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - She's a mom of four, a pastor's wife and she has a passion for decorating. However, like most people these days, she's on a budget. So, Sunday Burquest turned someone else's discards into DIY treasure.

Sunday shared several tips on KARE 11 News @4.

Sunday says shop thrift stores, garage sales, and Craigslist.

Furniture
Look for sturdy pieces that are made well and do not require repair. Look for the size and shape you want for the space.

Accessories
Look at things with "new eyes." What would this look like in another color or finish? Could I alter it to coordinate with my décor style?

Once you find your treasure, DIY to make it your own.
1. Clean
2. Prime
3. Paint

Sunday showed before and after examples including the following:

Two square mirrors - one re-painted and glazed and one made of chalkboard.

Books - before and after books, easy to paint or cover in paper.

Small shelf - Sunday showed it mostly finished but that you can quickly glaze a portion as well.
