GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - It's not even officially summer, but things are already heating up at the Guthrie. Thanks to The Amen Corner and the incomparable Greta Oglesby.
The Amen Corner is a story about love, sacrifice and the price of Salvation. The musical is a Penumbra Theatre Company production that is directed by Lou Bellamy and being performed at the Guthrie.
For The Amen Corner, Greta Oglesby is returning to the Guthrie's thrust stage for the first time since her ground breaking role in Tony Kushner's Caroline, or Change - a performance critics hailed as "pitch-perfect," "brilliant," and the "performance of a lifetime."
Greta Oglesby is playing the role of the fiery and unfaltering Sister Margaret Alexander in The Amen Corner. Sister Margaret is a pastor at a storefront church in Harlem who is trying really hard to serve the Lord.... until her estranged husband returns and she's forced to face some hard truths about her life.
The Amen Corner is in performance through June 17, 2012, on the Wurtele Thrust Stage at the Guthrie Theater.
