Red Cross helps fairgoers plan for disaster

FALCON HEIGHTS, Minn. - Disaster can strike at any time. The Napa Valley earthquake is a reminder of that. So volunteers with the American Red Cross are helping fairgoers plan for disaster by walking them through a checklist at the Minnesota State Fair.

Red Cross spokesperson Mark Doble explained that there are things people often forget, like how to communicate to others that you are safe if your phone is dead or cell phone service is out.

He said it's also important to have family members you can check in with outside of your community in the event that your city is wiped out, for example, by a tornado.

Fairgoers are encouraged to snap a pic of their disaster plan with their phone to bring home.

The Red Cross booth is found in the Health Fair 11 building at the fair at Dan Patch and Cooper Streets.
