GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. -- Pepito's Parkway Theater and Rob Chapman kicks off The Legends of All Star Wrestling series with special screenings of the original film "The Wrestler" and rare interviews with Minnesota wrestlers Verne and Greg Gagne.
Wrestling star Greg Gagne, son of 16-time world heavyweight champion Verne Gagne, will conduct rare interviews with wrestling author George Schire this Saturday and Sunday.
"The Wrestler" is based on Verne Gange's wrestling career. Starring Ed Asner, Verne Gagne, Billy Robinson, Joe Scarpello, Dick the Bruiser, The Crusher, Dusty Rhodes, and Wahoo McDaniels, the1974 classic film echoes an era in the Twin Cities when WCCO-TV would carry regularly scheduled Saturday morning matches among AWA superstar wrestlers.
Sponsors of the series hope to bring back the thrills and mayhem of that wrestling time period by screening films and television broadcasts of select wrestling events.
