MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- If one of the most famous inventors of all time - Thomas Edison - were alive today, he would be very impressed with how people at the Bakken Museum in Minneapolis, Minnesota are going to celebrate his birthday this year. On Saturday, February 11, 2012, from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m., the museum will host a special Super Science Saturday event - Invent Like Thomas Edison!

Edison's birthday, which since 1983 has also been known as National Inventors' Day, will be observed with an electrifying show about Edison and his rival Tesla, and a good old-fashioned inventor's challenge. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet a modern day inventor, and hear stories of invention by writer Doug Cornelius, author of the new book, Good News - I Failed: A Story of Inventing in Minnesota published by Mill City Press.

The short novel, which is debuting at the Super Science Saturday event, is the story of Josh Lindstrom, a young man who wants to invent an aquarium cleaner. As he works on his project, his grandfather, who knows a lot about Minnesota inventors, shares his wealth of knowledge about our state's contributions to the world.

Doug Cornelius is the son of famous Minnesota inventor Richard Cornelius, who held 180 patents during his lifetime, including the drink dispensers used at bars and convenience stores throughout the world. When he was a boy, his family owned the West Winds Mansion, the building that now houses the Bakken museum.

"It's surreal to be able to come back to the home where I grew up, the place where many of my father's ideas were hatched, and spend Edison's birthday talking about the virtues of Minnesota's great legacy of inventors - one of the most important being Earl Bakken, patriarch of what is now this wonderful museum," said Cornelius.
