Shakopee superintendent to resign amid investigation

SHAKOPEE, Minn. - Shakopee Public Schools Superintendent Rod Thompson is set to resign.

The school board's schedule shows the board is expected to accept Thompson's resignation at its meeting on Monday.

Thompson is under investigation for alleged personal use of his district credit card, Shakopee Valley News reports. According to the Valley News reporting, Thompson reimbursed the district for personal purchases he made on the card, including a trip to Nashville with his wife.

During the school year, the district reported a $4.5 million budget shortfall that they say was the result of human error.

At that time, Thompson had just signed a new $212,000 contract  - a 10-percent raise.

After the board accepts Thompson's resignation, its agenda lists a time set aside for visitor comments.
