Waconia knows how to make a splash with its Relay for Life events. This is a premeire fundraising event for the American Cancer Society nationwide.

Waconia participants raised more than $118,000 in its first Relay for Life in 2010.  Last year the amount increased to $145,389.

This year's event also promises fun for all ages, live entertainment, food, and the chance to participate in Cancer Prevention Study -3, a long-term research project sponsored by the American Cancer Society.  Participants need to be between 30-65 years old, and be willing to make a long-term commitment.

The Waconia Relay for Life is Friday, August 17th at Carver County Fairgrounds starting at 4 p.m. and concluding with the Fight Back Ceremony at 6 a.m. Saturday.
