Toddler pulled from burning car in Golden Valley

GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. - A toddler is safe after being pulled from a burning car in Golden Valley Tuesday night.

Authorities say they responded to a one-car crash around 8:30 p.m. on the 3800 block of Golden Valley Road and found the vehicle on its side, down a steep ditch in Bassett Creek, fully engulfed in flames.

As crews approached the vehicle, they could hear a child crying from inside.

Authorities say the flames were contained enough for fire and police personnel to break a rear window, pull the toddler from his car seat and safely remove him from the wreckage.

The driver, a 22-year-old, was found outside the vehicle on the ground and transported to North Memorial Medical Center with serious injuries.

The 23-month-old child was also transported as a precaution but authorities say he didn't have any visible injuries.

Police say alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, according to the preliminary investigation.

Golden Valley Police and the Minnesota State Patrol will continue to investigate.
