U of M guard Rachel Banham done for season

MINNEAPOLIS - University of Minnesota Golden Gopher senior guard Rachel Banham will miss the remainder of the season with a torn ACL in her right knee. The injury occurred Wednesday night in the first half of the team's game at North Dakota.

There has been no word yet whether there will be an application for a medical hardship, allowing her a fifth season of competition next year. Players that lose more than 30 percent of a season due to injury can be awarded that and an extra season of play.

In a tweet posted Friday afternoon, Banham said, "Thanks everyone for the support and prayers! Blessed to have so much love and care around me. God has a plan"

In a written statement Gopher Women's Basketball coach Marlene Stollings said, "This is a devastating injury for Rachel and a great loss for our team. Rachel has been a joy to coach and has put in the work to elevate her game to yet another level this season. We will support her throughout her rehabilitation process and she will continue to play a critical leadership role on this team as she recovers."
