Woman, man found dead in Mpls. home

Minneapolis police investigating man and woman found dead

MINNEAPOLIS - Police in Minneapolis say two people were found dead inside a home Thursday afternoon.

Around 3 p.m., police were called to an apartment in the 2700-block of Cedar Av South where they found a dead man and woman. Police tell KARE 11 the two had some sort of relationship and investigators are treating the case as a murder-suicide.

The names of those involved have not been released. At this time, police are not looking for any suspects related to this case.

Meantime, those who work to combat domestic violence say every case is "horrific."

"It's always tragic," said Liz Richards, Executive Director of the Minnesota Coalition for Battered Women.

Richards added: "Every year we track those homicides. And each one of them is a horrible tragedy. So far this year, we have 14 confirmed cases -- this would make the 15th."

Richards also notes the start of the holiday season can contribute to the risk within unhealthy relationships.

"When there are increased stresses in people's lives, if there's already domestic violence going on, those increased stresses can create even more potential for harm and risk," she said.

Richards say that reality -- along with this latest tragic example -- should provide a call to action to anyone who needs to make a call.

"If you are in any way experiencing violence or feel at risk, we encourage people to reach out, call a crisis line, talk to a friend. Just really don't disregard your own feelings about whether you're feeling safe," she said.

"We also say to family members and friends, if someone you know is experiencing violence or you believe they might be, just really be there, being available, being non-judgmental, being willing to talk and not pressuring people to do anything but just being available is something that anybody can do," she said.

Richards said the Day One Crisis Hotline number is 866-233-1111. Victims can also call 911.
