GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.--  Barbara Hunn and her daughter Jean Hunn from Keys Café and Bakery stopped by our KARE 11 Kitchen to show us how to make their signature apple pie.

Keys Cafe and Bakery has nine Twin Cities locations, with the original opening in 1973 on Raymond Ave. in St. Paul. For more information, visit www.keyscafe.com.

Key's Café All American Apple Pie

Crust
1 cup shortening or lard
2 cups of flour
1 egg
1/3 cup water
Dash of salt and dash of vinegar

Filling
3 cups apples, chopped
3 tbls flour
1 freshly squeezed lemon
1 c white sugar
½ tsp brown sugar

Pre-heat oven to 375 degrees.  Mix the ingredients for the crust in a large mixing bowl. Place dough in fridge for 20 minutes to chill. Mix the ingredients for the filling in a large mixing bowl, starting with the dry ingredients first, then the apples, then squeeze one lemon into the mix.

Once your pie crust has cooled, divide it into two, equal halves.
Roll one of the balls of pie crust out until it is around 1/8th of an inch thick.

Once you have rolled out the dough, place it in your pie pan.

Once you have shaped it to fit the inside of the pan, take a fork and poke holes in the bottom of the crust. This will let the steam out as the pie bakes. Place filling into pie pan.

Roll out the remaining pie dough and place it on top.

Bake for about 1 hour or until top is golden brown.
