GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn.-- Manny Gonzales from Manny's Tortas at Midtown Global Market joined us today to give us a taste of the 5th Annual Global Chili Cook-Off. He also shared his recipe for Chipotle Black Bean Tequila Chili, which he will be entering in the contest.
Midtown Global Market's 5th Annual Global Chili Cook-Off will be held Saturday, November 12 from noon-2 p.m. Guests can sample chilis from around the world at ten different Midtown Global Market restaurants and vote for their favorite. A $3 donation is suggested, with proceeds benefiting the Youth Farm and Market project, where local youth learn the process of planting, growing, preparing and selling food.

Manny's Chipotle Black Bean Tequila Chili
For chipotle sauce:
10 tomatoes
1 clove of garlic
1/4 onion
1 teaspoon of salt
1/2 can of chipotle pepper
Other ingredients:
1 pound of skirt steak (cut into small pieces)
2 tablespoon of olive oil
1 onion dice
1 green pepper diced
3(15oz) cans of black beans
1(14.5oz) can crushed tomato
1 tablespoon of dried oregano
1 tablespoon of dried basil
1 cup of tequila (optional)
Put ingredients of chipotle sauce in blender and blend.
Heat the oil on large heavy pot over medium heat, cook the onions, garlic, green peppers until onions are translucent. Add steak until nice and brown.
Stir in the chipotle sauce, beans, tomatoes, oregano, basil, and tequila, reduce heat to slow. Simmer about 2 hours until flavors are well blended, garnish with Mexican sour cream and chopped cilantro.
Serves about 6 to 8 people.
